Kampala's Children Centre 2016 II

Beth Read has just returned from spending 10 days in Uganda at Kampala's Children Centre. If you missed the first half of her story, you can find that here.

Stickers!!!
Day 6 was a very chilled day, which started off with either Sunday school or church and ended with a culture show. I went to the church with a few others from the team, and was astounded by the grace and spirit that I felt in that place. We were asked to say a few words and although I was reluctant, I explained that I was very happy to be there, and very blessed by every one of them (explained very slowly, so it could go through the translator).
The next day we were offered a slightly later start, and then were taken straight off the KCC. The day was filled with teaching in the school and painting house number 10 which was soon to be the baby house. Me and a lady called Gwynn were taken into a class of 25 2-3 year olds, and were asked to do something with them while the teacher went to breastfeed her baby. You can imagine my surprise when we were stood in front of toddlers, who were only just started to learn English and asked to teach them something. On the spot we decided we would do some cutting and sticking and make a mosaic from it.

God made the flowers
It was Day 8, we were exhausted and it was time for the last children’s camp! This one was held on the KCC site, and held about 700 children in 40 degree heat. You can imagine how shattered we were at the end of the day. When we arrived it was time to set up, and according to me and Praise this very obviously meant that it was selfie time!

He pulled the duck face first
It was then time for more story telling, craft, singing, dancing and praising God! For the craft we had decided to do mirrors with foam stickers. They seem to love the stickers and I was crowded when they had realised I had many in my pockets!

The joy of the Lord is my strength
Our last full official day was quite chilled for the ladies, not so much for the men. While us ladies took the house mothers to the zoo and to Lake Victoria, the men stayed back to finish the painting of House 10! We had a wonderful day, and were treated to 2 hours of singing from the mothers on the way home to show their appreciation. When we got back I put my painting hat on (cowboy hat!) and went to help my dad finish the mural he was painting for the baby house.

The rainbow's in the sky to show God's promises are true
When we had finished it was time to go and spend more time with the children before we had to leave! We played with some bubbles, my hat, we did (or they did) some handstands, and we were presented with a card that some of the children had made us to thank us for everything we had done. I was very sad to leave L

Christopher looks better in my hat!
The flight back home was long, exhausting and boring, but when we were finally home at 6:50am on Friday morning we were all glad to climb back into our beds and have a nice long sleep! I loved my time in Uganda and experienced some amazing things. Take me back <3

Home away from home
What a story! Beth's experience has really opened my eyes and I hope you've enjoyed it too.
